1956 meter mail envelope from Melbourne to Apia, Samoa. On the 13th June, whilst carrying oil, general cargo and mail between Fiji and Western Samoa, the S.S. Vasu blew up and sank off the Tonga Islands. A very small amount of mail in damaged condition was salvaged and sent to Western Samoa where violet 'SOILED MAIL EX "VASU"' applied by the Post Office.
