1914 censored envelope addressed to London. Franked vertical pair 10pf tied 'LUDERITZBUCHT' c.d.s. '29 7 14' Six days before the outbreak of war, this cover carried on the last peacetime mail. A manuscript notation on the reverse certifies that this letter was in on of the four bags of mail found in the prize ship "Gertrud Woermann" seized by the Brasilian
authorities. Forwarded in the spring of 1919. Five years in transit.

1968 Airmail envelope from London dated 7th April addressed to Kuching, Sarawak. Carried on B.O.A.C. Boeing 707 (G-ARWE) Just two minutes after leaving London Heathrow on 8th April, the pilot signalled that the left engine was detached and the plane was burning. Rectangular 'Received in this Condition' Manuscript 'Salvaged from Crashed Aircraft' below. Believed to be the only cover known addressed to Sarawak from the crash.
