During unloading in Marseille a quantity of mail was found to be water damaged due to gales in the Mediterranean which had penerated the ventilators of No 2 hatch. Boxed 'DAMAGED BY / WATER' struck in violet. (Kalyan type 3 cachet)

1942 censored envelope from Sydney addressed to Rev. Linggood, Rabual New Guinbea. Two Line 'NOT TRANSMISSIBLE / SERVICE SUSPENDED' struck in red, applied in Sydney. Rev Linggood was an English Methodist missionary, who was captured when the Japanese occupied Rabual on 23rd January 1942. The prisoners were loaded on the "Montevideo Maru" On 22nd June and sailed for Hainan Island. On 1st July the ship was torpedoed by a submarine. There were no survivors.The ship sank in 10 minutes.
