1956 wreck envelope from Australia addressed to Western Samoa with handstruck straight-line "SOILED MAIL EX 'VASU'" On 13th June whilst carrying oil, general cargo and mail between Fiji & Western Samoa, the SS Vasu blew up and sank of the Tonga Islands. A very small amount of mail in damaged condition was salvaged and sent to Western Samoa where the Post Office applied a violet explanatory mark.
