1945 censored airmail envelope marked "By Trans-Tasman Airmail Service" addressed to San Francisco. Franked 2d, 1/- 6d & 2/6d adhesives tied 'HAAPAI TONGA' c.d.s. '16 AP 45' 'OPENED BY EXAMINER WW/2' label at left. Charged at the correct rate 4/2d for the short lived route to the U.S.A. via Europe. Carried on the first flight from Auckland on 30th April 1945 via Sydney, Marseille, Lisbon. Finally carried on Pan Am to New York via Horta.
