1954 airmail envelope from Whitley Bay dated 6th April 1954 (Stamps washed off) addressed to Khartoum. The envelope was carried on B.O.A.C. Comet G-ALYY which crashed into the sea north of Stromboli. Two bags of mail were recovered, one taken to Khartoum, the other to Italy. This was recovered from the bag taken to Italy which contained a small amount of mail addressed to British Forces. Two line 'Corrispondenza recuperate in sequito / Incedente aereo del 8 APR 54' The date marking '8 MAR 54' crossed through, the cachet was originally used on the earlier 1954 Comet crash.
