1941 envelope from London stamps washed off addressed to Khartoum Sudan 'LONDON' meter cancellation '16 JAN 1941' Boxed 'DAMAGED BY SEA / WATER' struck in black. Resealing tape on the reverse applied in London, together with receiving cancellation. The Dutch steamer 'S.S. "Alhena"' ran aground on Pladdy Rock, South Bay, County Down, Ireland on 28th January en-route to Haifa.
