1942 censored envelope from The Bishop of New Guinea addressed to Sydney. Cancelled 'FIELD P.O. 0139' c.d.s. '10 AU 42' 'Opened by CENSOR' blue/white label at left, overstamped crown 'PASSED BY CENSOR 174' cachet in violet. As the civil post office ceased to opertate as much as the island was under Japanese control, the few missionaries left behind were allowed to use the Free Service provided by the Australian Army. Vertical fold and light toning.
