MAURITIUS 1841 E.L. headed & date "Ship Hibernia Indian Ocean June 6th 1841" addressed to the USA, written by Samuel E Cook on board the Whaler, which left New Bedford in January 1840, en route from Freemantle, Western Australia to Mauritius. The Whaling records in New Bedford show the vessel in Mauritius on 14th June where it was carried privately to the US with "NEW BEDFORD" receiving c.d.s. and "SHIP", both applied in red. The Hibernia returned to New Bedford in April 1842.
