SOUTH AFRICA 1951 crash cover stamp washed off with Ambulance envelope with manuscript "Salvaged from Plane Crash 15/10/51 This is the only recorded cover with a manuscript endorsement. The S.A.A. Dakota Paardeberg flying from Cape Town to Durban crashed in the Ingeli Mountains.

Carried on Linee Aeree Italiane I-LUCK Douglas DC6 When attempting an instrument landing in heavy fog at Milan the aircraft crashed five miles short of the runway and was destroyed by fire. The envelope was placed in an ambulance cover which bears the four line crash cachet in violet.
